Top Marble Polishing Company in DC/MD/VA
At Marble Doctor we pride ourselves on our marble polishing techniques. Over the years many new polishing processes have entered the marketplace. In this case new is not best. All chemical polishing compounds coat the stone and interrupt the moisture vapor transmission (MVT). The best analogy for this is to put a banana in a sealed bag. The banana will begin a rapid decaying process much quicker than if it was not in a sealed container. It literally eats itself! The chemical polishing compounds used today contain acids and fluorosilicate. When the MVT is hindered by the coating atop the stone it does two things. The MVT will condensate below the coating allowing the moisture to reactivate the acids. The acids will then begin to eat the soft calciums which bond the stone together. Not the best method for marble polishing!

However it is not the same compound after crystallization or re-vitrification has taken place. Many companies coat wood and metal architectural surfaces. This practice makes sense. You want to protect these surfaces from the exterior moisture that can penetrate and damage the wood or oxidize the iron in metal. These companies must have dripped there varnish on stone and found it to be a very inexpensive way to maintain gloss on natural stone. However, when your floor has deteriorated, they are no where to be found. Trust the DC marble polishing professionals at Marble Doctor to ensure your surfaces are maintained by our marble polishing specialists.
